Fáilte Romhaibh Ar Ais: We welcome everyone back to school after the Halloween break. We all look forward to a busy half term up to the Christmas break.
Mile buíochas: Míle buíochas to Dan Delaney and Colm Makim for all their hard work in removing the bush and organising the ground works, the concreting and the fencing at the children’s entrance/exit to/from the school. It really is such a tidy, neat job. Thanks a million lads.
Míle buíochas also to Richie Donnelly who is always coming to our rescue to do various plumbing works. He did great work over the mid-term, resolving issues with toilets in the school. Any help we as a school receive, is always very much appreciated.
Board of Management (2023-2027): Please note a very important letter re parent nominees to serve on the Board of Management, is being sent home with your child today. Please give this your immediate attention, take note of its contents and should you be interested in serving as a parent nominee on the board, return the perforated slip at the end of this letter, no later than this Wednesday the 8th of November. Your co-operation on all of this is much appreciated.

PA AGM; The PA AGM took place on the 19th of October. I was delighted to get the opportunity to address the meeting on the night. Our PA do wonderful work in supporting our school in so many ways in their work. We wish our hardworking Parents Association committee all the very best for the remainder of the 2023/24 school year.
Primary Planets/Newsflash: Our 3rd , 4th , 5th and 6th classes receive these magazines every month. The magazines are of a huge educational benefit to the children as they not only benefit from reading but they also benefit from learning about the most up to date current affairs. We wish to thank our Board of Management and Parents Association for funding these magazines.
Christmas Cards: Each boy and girl in the school has designed his/her own Christmas card. The sample Christmas cards are being sent home with your children today. You can then purchase your child’s/children’s Christmas cards by ordering them online with the ‘Design A Card’ company. All the information will be on your child’s sample card. This is not a school fundraiser. The money which the company charges for cards is their business, the school is not adding anything to the costs. It is simply an opportunity for you to buy packs of cards, designed by your children, to send to loved ones this Christmas. All the boys’ and girls’ efforts in designing these cards are very impressive.
Christmas Show: All classes will be very busy over the next few weeks, preparing for our Christmas Show which will take place on Wednesday the 20th of December, in the Parish Hall. Further details around the show will be communicated to you, closer to the time.
Children’s/Family Masses: Please refer back to the letter sent out to you directly from Fr. Reddan, on the 19th of October, for comprehensive details of these masses. Please note that the first of these masses will take place, this Saturday evening the 11th of November at 7.30pm. All children and their families from the school are invited to and indeed are encouraged to come along and participate in these masses.
Sacramental Talk: Please also refer back to Fr. Reddan’s letter on the 19th of October, regarding a sacramental talk for parents of all children who will be receiving the sacraments of First Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation in the coming year. This talk will be hosted by Sr. Claire and will take place in the Parish Hall tomorrow evening, Tuesday the 7th of November at 7.30pm. At least one parent from each of the families concerned, should attend this talk.
Book Fair: From the week of Monday the 20th of November to Friday the 24th of November, a book fair organised by Celtic books, is coming to the school. You will have the opportunity to buy books from the Book Fair, during this week. Some of the funds generated from these sales, will go directly to the school. Further information will be communicated to you, closer to the time. We thank Ms. Birmingham for organising all of this.
Fast Feet: The boys and girls have two more weeks left in this programme. Mile buíochas to past pupil Johnny Corboy (Offaly Sports Partnership) who lead in the running of the programme. The children in 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes will then take part in an interschools competition in Drumcullen GAA Astro Turf facility on Thursday the 23rd of November. Each child involved in these classes are asked to make a €5 donation each towards the cost of the bus. This as always can be sent in, in a sealed envelope with relevant details marked on it.
School Closure: A new Primary School Maths Curriculum will be rolled out in all schools during the coming couple of years. As part of this process, all teachers will engage in various inservice. Our school will be closed for all children on Thursday the 14th of December to facilitate this inservice.
Peace Proms; Our Senior Classes (3rd to 6th) are currently preparing for the Peace Proms Concert which will take place in UL on Sunday the 28th of January. Míle buíochas to Ms. Murphy who is leading in the organisation of this. No doubt, this will serve as a great experience for all our boys and girls, to take part in such an event. Please take note of the details below, which Ms. Murphy has communicated to the parents of the classes involved.
The children from 3rd to 6th class will attend a workshop in Limerick on this Friday the 10th of November during school time. The children will then perform in concert on Sunday 28th January at 1pm. They will travel by bus from the school on the day. The following is information for parents if you wish to purchase tickets to attend the concert.

Parent Teacher Meetings: Parent Teacher meetings will take place on Wednesday the 29th of November. We hope to have seen many parents before the date itself as it simply would not be possible to see all on the day. With this in mind, we would appreciate it if you could indicate whether you would be in a position to see us on mornings over the next couple of weeks. You can email the school with the days of the mornings which you would be available to see us. Alternatively, you can send in a short note indicating the mornings you may be available to meet. Your help and cooperation in this regard would be much appreciated.
Enrolments: The Schools Admission notice is now published on our school website. This can be downloaded from our school website by clicking on the Enrolment tab. Please inform anyone who has a child due to begin school in September 2022 of this.
School Contribution: Many thanks to all those who have already furnished us with payment. We greatly appreciate it. Please pay online, if possible. To do this you can visit the school website @ seirkieransns.com, click on the school payments tab and in turn click on the payments link. If you experience any difficulties with this, please contact Gerardine in the office.
Junior Infants to 3rd Class: Many thanks to all of those who have already paid €15 per child to go and see ‘Elfie saves Christmas’ in Birr Theatre on Tuesday the 12th of December. If you haven’t already furnished payment for this, we would appreciate it if you could make payment as soon as possible. Again, many thanks to our Board of Management and Parents Association who are funding the bus to go to this show.
Birr Community School Show: 4th/5th and 6th classes will attend the show ‘Grease’ in Birr Community school on the night of Wednesday the 15th of November at 7.30pm. Tickets for the show cost €7. This can be sent in, in a sealed envelope with the relevant details marked on it, at your earliest convenience.

Friendship Week: As part of the schools Well Being programme (arising out of our School Self-evaluation and the School Improvement Plan we have put in place) Friendship week takes place this week in the school. During this week we will be putting the emphasis on extending the hand of friendship to one another and in general watching out for one another.
